Discovering her passion for music in the San Francisco’s underground electro-club scene of the late 90's, Stephanie Villa began her music career as a club promoter and de facto sound engineer, helping establish the Bay area’s then-emerging EBM movement. Life in the 8-bit aural nirvana of euro-flavored industrial disco and the nightly sweaty excitement of club life left Stephanie seeking more than the average 9 to 5. Channeling her passion for the music into both her lifestyle and her career was the clear choice. While attending Los Medanos College in Northern California, Stephanie picked up her first studio internship as a duplication rep. at Annex Digital in Menlo Park, California. She excelled in both arenas, earning an associates degree in recording arts as well as a promotion to mix assistant. A successful year at Annex would lead Stephanie to Los Angeles where she helped design and build Hollywood's Studio 5109 with chief engineer Mike Wolfe. In her time as production manager at Studio 5109 she discovered a true calling for which she had a natural talent, audio mastering. Stephanie would eventually meet Stephen Marsh and in 2003, join his mastering facility in Santa Monica, serving double duty as assistant to Marsh and facility production manager. Stephanie studied under Stephen and has since developed her own style as an engineer and, in turn, an ever-growing client list. Today Stephanie joins Stephen Marsh again at SMM, splitting duties between assisting at the facility and servicing her own clients. Her deep background in underground and independent electronic music along with her time spent with the polished sounds of LA gives Stephanie a broad experience base on which to draw--- and an uncanny ability to appreciate and highlight the unique elements of each artist. This wide range of experience and attention to each projects' idiosyncrasies keeps Stephanie in high demand to an ever-growing list of clients. When she's not in the studio or out enjoying the rich live music scene of LA, Stephanie is a skater in Los Angeles' all-girl roller derby league, the LA Derby Dolls. In addition to her strong presence on the track, Stephanie serves as the league Audio Production Manager for events. Client List: |
